How to Restart Your Life in 10 Steps

New Year New Me, right? But what do you do when you've fallen of the wagon and it's the 12th of June? There's not a new year or even a new month in sight. Hell, it's not even close to a Monday. You might feel stuck and a bit helpless and you might want to just throw everything out and start again. Well, keep reading because I have some tips and tricks for you! This is my personal checklist. I usually try to do as much as I can of this in one day, but it might be a good idea to reserve a weekend for this or even a full week, depending on how large your home is, if you don't have a lot of spare time and how big of a reset you need.

Disclaimer: These are things that work for me. It is solely based on personal experiences.

  1. Do the laundry.
To have all your clothes, towels and linen clean and ready to be worn and used will most likely take some weight of your shoulders. Do this continuously throughout the day if you have a lot to wash.
  2. Do the dishes.
While your laundry is in the washing machine it's time to tackle the dishes. If you have a dishwasher then this will be an easy step, if not this step will take a bit more time. When the dishes are drying (or in the dishwasher) its time for step three.
  3. Clean your makeup brushes and makeup.
If you're a makeup wearer this is the time to wipe down your makeup and clean your makeup brushes. And while these are drying, go to step four.
  4. Declutter your home.
One reason you may feel stuck could be your possessions. I recommend you go through at least a few problem areas and get rid of anything you don't want or need anymore. Since this blog is mostly read by panners, this could mean you'd go through your makeup stash and get rid of all those products that just frustrate you and you can't stand to look at anymore. I also recommend you take a quick look in other parts of your home, but if you don't have time to do it all, tackle the problem areas.
  5. Clean your home.
Now that you've done the laundry, done the dishes, washed your brushes and gotten rid of some clutter, it's time to clean up your mess. Bring out the rags, the vacuum and your mop because your home deserves your attention. You know the drill, just clean your home. A clean home will definitely make you feel lighter and happier. Also remember to take out the trash.
  6. Reorganize.
It's April now and Spring is here. Put away your winter wardrobe and bring out your spring clothes. Reorganize your makeup so you have easier access to all those spring colours. Take a look at your pantry and bring out all the food that needs to be eaten before it expires. Reorganize your bookcase and put your books back in an order that suits you. Just like with the decluttering, if you don't have time to do it all, tackle the problem areas. While doing this, you can take the opportunity to clean a bit further and wipe down those drawers that don't get a wipe in your weekly routine.
  7. Declutter your digital space and social media.
Now that your home looks fantastic it's time to do something about your digital space. Take out your phone and delete any and all apps you're not using (or you want to stop using). Clear the cache to make your phone run smoother and give you a fresh start. Go through all your pictures and other files and delete all those selfies you hate and those memes you didn't know were still on your phone. Whatever you do want to save, but you don't necessarily need to have on your phone, transfer those to a hard drive or some other place you store your digital files. You should also go through your social media and unfollow any accounts that don't make you feel good and delete your own accounts on any platforms you feel only wastes your time and don't bring anything important to your life. It's okay to break that snapchat streak and delete your account if it only feels like a chore. Just delete it. If it's a good friend they will understand.
Now do the same thing with your laptop, tablet, music player and other digital appliances.
This is also a good time to change your wallpapers for an extra fresh feel.
  8. Finish your to-do list.
Now for the part I always dread the most. The to-do list. If you have a written to-do list ready it's time to take it out and have a look, if you don't, take out a piece of paper or a note writing app on your phone and write down everything you need to do but have been putting off. That means everything from repairing that t-shirt and doing something about the rusty chain on your bike to scheduling a doctor's appointment and reaching out to a friend to select a time and place for your coffee date. Add everything you need to do on that list except for the things you view as goals. Like "go to the library once a week". We're going to tackle that in a moment.
Once you've written your to-do list it's time to do something about it. So get your tools out and do what you need to do. If there are things on your to do list that need to be done a specific date or time, like maybe the charity shop you're donating you decluttered things to only accepts donations every Saturday between noon and three, schedule it in your calendar and make sure you stick to it.
This part may take a while, but I believe it is one of the most important part of this list. Personally, it's always the things on my to-do list that stresses me out the most.
  9. Review your goals and make a masterplan.
Now the fun part! If you're anything like me, you probably have a bunch of different goals and things you aspire to do, but you might not have a clear plan on how to achieve those goals. We're going to fix that now. Take a look at this post that I wrote about how to master plan and do that with all of your goals. They will seem so much easier to achieve after that.
  10. Refresh your routines.
Lastly, you should do something about your routines. A few moments ago you planned out your goals and how to achieve them so we need to put those into your daily routine. If you want to do huge changes to your life beware, you won't be able to do that overnight. If you read the post about master planning you've probably already prioritized your goals and know which you should implement in your life first and how to build it up from there. Plan your schedule accordingly. Is one of your goals to use up some skincare products in your collection, put them in your skincare routines. If a goal is to eat healthier and you've decided to start meal planning, make sure you schedule it and make it a Sunday night routine.
That's all from me folks. If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments and please share more tips on how to restart your life if you have any. I love getting more tips and tricks on how to improve my life.

I have decluttered a lot of books. My husband has a bookshelf at work where everyone can put books that they know longer want. Like a free library. So every once in a while i will give him books that i know for certain i will never read again. I have also unfollowed people who posts lots of hauls. Strange because i feel bad doing that, but i need to do what is good for me and my replacement only buy. This is a good list to use every month.

@Maria This makes me so happy! I'd really like to have access to a bookshelf like that. Even if I'd set up a bookshelf like that at work I don't think it'd work since I work from home, haha. I'd really like it if my uni started something like that instead. I'd use it so much! The airport in Helsinki has one and I always leave my read books there, but that's not often, especially since I rarely travel by plane anymore.
Health should always be a priority for everyone and unfollowing people who post things that make you feel bad is a step in the right direction. It's difficult at first, but you end up feeling so much better.
