PANNING PRO TAG

Last week when I was looking at some youtube videos I came to think of the old Panning Pro tag and I thought I'd give it a shot in blog form instead of the traditional youtube video. The reason I wanted to do this was mainly to just get back on track with my blogging as well as reflect a bit more about my journey before my panning anniversary (#PANNIVERSARY) in April. So without further ado, here we go.

How did you learn about project panning? What was your first impression?
About a year ago I somehow stumbled upon a few instagram accounts about panning and I stalked their entire panning journeys from the beginning. I was instantly hooked and decided to create an account right then and there to do the same. A few days later I went through my entire stash and made an inventory and on the first of April I started my first project which was to finish 23 products before my 23rd birthday.

What is the hardest thing you've panned? The easiest?
Lipsticks and body lotions are my panning enemies. I never ever use body lotions, but I still own them and I always forget to touch up lipstick so they always feel never ending. The one product I've had the most trouble with was my DKNY Be Delicious perfume. I always forgot to use it and I was terrified of reapplying over the course of the day in case I'd start smelling like a Wunderbaum.

Have you attempted a Pan That Palette? Why or why not?
Yes! Panning eyeshadow is one of my favourite things to do and I have more palettes than I need and want so focusing on one to get it out of my collection has been really really satisfying. I'm on my third (and fourth) Pan That Palette now and I already know what to focus on next!

Has panning affected your makeup buying habits? If so how?
When I started panning I went on a no-buy instantly. It felt like the right thing to do since I wanted to downsize my collection and to keep buing products would be counterproductive. The best thing is that going on a no-buy and forcing myself to use what I already have has taught me so much about my makeup habits and what I truly like and enjoy. I've also found that I care a lot more about quality in my products now. I only buy replacements and an occasional wishlist item as a reward so I make sure that product truly is something I want and will use as well as make sure it's up to my standards. No more lipsticks transferring to glasses for this gal.

What do you plan to pan next?
Everything in my collection should pretty much be panned so I can "start over" with my collection and only include the things I really want. I have a long list of everything I want to pan in some kind of order in my bullet journal. It is separated into categories and whenever I start a new project I look through it and try to choose a few products from each category.
Where do you get your panning inspiration/motivation?
All the wonderful people in the community on instagram are my main inspiration. Seeing all of you do so well really makes me want to do well too.
What is your favorite thing about the panning community?
The supportiveness is the true gold in the community.
If you're currently project panning what one item is giving you the most trouble?
What's currently kicking my butt are my lipsticks, my mascara and my nail polishes. I forget about the lipsticks and my nail polishes and the mascara feels like it's taking forever since I just don't really like it. I still don't want to declutter it since it does the job.

How long do you plan to project pan? Do you see yourself stopping at any point?
I'm definitely a project panner for life. I want this to become my new standard, using things up and not buing new things unless I feel like I can justify it. Makeup is my hobby, but there is no need for me to have more products than I could possibly ever use up. I don't need more products right now. I need better techniques using what I already have.
Would you recommend panning to others? How would you explain it?
Definitely! Panning is amazing! What we do is that we use up our products instead of mindlessly purchasing new ones all the time, which is great for the environment, your wallet and your mental health. We distance ourselves from the consumerism we're fed with through the rest of the beauty community.

Ah this was fun to read! Very insightful :). I like the idea of an list with items to pan. Okay so you know i'm totally going to be doing that right?! lol. You and your tips! I also agree on panning lipsticks and nailpolishes. For some reason its harder to reach for them then blush or eyeshadow. So weird. I have removed all my nailpolishes except the ones i want to pan. I hope that, that will work lol.

This makes me so happy to read, Maria! I love writing lists so I have lists for EVERYTHING! It's my thing.
I'm glad if I could inspire you on your panning journey again. It has helped me to stay on top of my panning and I hope it works for you too!
I don't understand why lipsticks are so hard to reach for, either. I just don't reach for them that often. The nail polishes however I do understand why there isn't any progress on, because I rarely inconvenience myself by doing my nails.

You always inspire me and i am happy that you are sharing tips on your blog. So thank you for that. I have reserved a page in my bullet journal, so tomorrow i will make a list of things i want to pan. My panning basket helps me to, so this should work also.

Ha i love to do my nails. I just need to remember to use the once i want to pan lol.
