Decluttering My Childhood Room
My summers are usually spent visiting my parents back in my old hometown. Living here means free food and cheap living. The only thing I absolutely must pay for is my apartment back home. The rest is optional.
While I'm here I sleep in my old bedroom. It is a very weird feeling coming back. There's a lot of memories, both good and bad, but I mostly just feel exhausted being surrounded by things I no longer care for. This summer I decided to do something about it and I started to declutter.
First I started decluttering the clothes I had left behind. If they aren't at home and in use, why have I kept them? Then I went through my old books and then everything else. It's not a big room but it still took about three days to finish the job. I ended up getting rid of quite a lot of things. I still have to find a place to donate it all to. The clothes are already donated, but not the rest.
All my old toys are stored somewhere else (no idea where), so I didn't go through any of those. We went through those a few years back, so it was mainly just my things from my teenage years that I had to go through this time. It was still incredibly liberating! Seeing empty shelves makes me feel so light. All my junk can now become someone else's treasure. The only thing left now is to find a place I can donate it to and then all that weight is out of my life! Only the important things are left. Now the fun part of organizing it and making it look good can begin!

These shelves used to be full of books and other random things that didn't bring any joy to my life. |
