My Panning Goals
As you may know if you've followed my blog for longer than a few days or if you follow my Instagram (@opportunitied), I enjoy panning. There is something very satisfying about finishing makeup. Seeing that completely emptied packaging gives me a sense of accomplishment. I feel proud. And who doesn't like feeling proud?
When I started panning earlier this year, I didn't have a goal with it. I just picked up some half empty products I knew I wanted to finish and started using them up. It was only later I realized I wanted to achieve something with my panning; I want to transform my makeup and skin care collection. My current collection doesn't suit me and it is cluttered up with lots of products I won't miss when they're gone. I realized I had some goals with my panning projects.
2018 GOALS
1. A minimal collection.
My very experimental days are over and I now know what my style is when it comes to makeup. It will probably change again in a few years, but for now I know I prefer a minimal and natural look on a daily basis. I have also become more comfortable in my own skin since my makeup hoarding days and even leave the house without makeup these days. My need for a big collection is over. Now I only want the basics and maybe one eyeshadow palette with some bold colours to use when I want to experiment or play dress-up.
2. A cruelty free collection
There is absolutely no need to test on animals anymore. The EU has already outlawed animal testing and no products tested on animals are allowed to be sold in any EU countries. However, companies who want to sell their products in China are required by law to test on animals, which means they pay to have their products tested so they can be sold there. I've decided I don't need to support these companies. When I went through my beauty products recently I realised that a large majority of my products were already cruelty free so making this change will be incredibly easy for me. I have no excuse whatsoever not to make this change. My only dilemma is whether or not to ditch cruelty free companies owned by larger non-cruelty free companies (e.g. NYX cosmetics are owned by L'Oréal). I think I'll still consider my collection cruelty free with those products, but I might start looking into other alternatives soon.
3. No-buy
I am on a no-buy this year. I have enough products and have no need to buy anything new until I actually run out of a certain product. So far my no-buy has been really easy to uphold and I haven't even had to buy any refills of any product yet. My first refill will probably be a dry shampoo in a couple of weeks, but so far so good. Not a single cent spent on beauty since I went on a no-buy!
4. Pan my eyeshadow collection
There are currently several nude eyeshadow palettes in my collection. I do not need them all. My goal for 2018 is to just pan them all. My one exception is my colourful Urban Decay Full Spectrum palette which I'm fine with leaving unpanned. It is now the only colourful palette I have left beside some single shadows. All my nude palettes are going, though. After I've panned them all I can finally buy a new cruelty free palette with some basic matte nudes.
These are my goals. Hopefully, I won't screw up now that I've shared them with the internet. I hop I can be proud at the end of this year when I look at my collection of beauty products. Wish me luck and please follow me on my journey!
